Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a gunfire incident that occurred on the evening of April 18 at the Howe Community Park area at the time law enforcement were dissolving an unlawful assembly of multiple hundreds of people.
Prior to the Shooting
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first dispatched to Howe Community Park at approximately half past six in the evening after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Not long after, check here a follow-up call was made describing an alleged brawl unfolding at Howe Park.
A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, it was apparent that several hundred individuals had come together at the location without permission.
The Shooting Itself
Law enforcement personnel worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and issuing commands over loudspeakers directing the assembled crowd to vacate the area. Around 15 minutes were spent for the crowd to leave.
Just as the crowd began to move that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly started identifying shooting victims.
Those Who Were Hit
By the time the scene was secured, four victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. The victims — including a female and three males each reported to be in their 20s — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel stated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, each of the four victims was stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department provided support and provided medical assistance the injured prior to hospital transport.
Evidence at the Scene
The main crime scene was believed to have happened near Cottage Way close to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Crime scene investigators located additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Ballistic damage were noted in the iron fence surrounding the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries indicated that a second shooter had been firing southward from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown for a period of time. CSI units alongside detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Detainees in Solano County
Information relayed over scanner radio traffic revealed that a vehicle identified as a Kia was intercepted in Solano County. Four detainees were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for processing in Sacramento County. Video reviewed at the scene confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
